I love crocheting pot holders. They are a fun way to try out new stitches and create something practical, for yourself or as a great gift! It usually doesn’t take too long to make them so it’s great for when you want a quick project to complete.
This potholder uses the alpine stitch, where you alternate rows of single crochet and rows of double crochet and front post double crochet. This creates a really wonderful texture and when you alternate colors they overlap in a really pretty way. This is one of my go to stitches and I use it in a lot of projects.
The potholder is formed by crocheting a long rectangle, then folding it in half and seaming up the sides.

notes on changing colors
When you switch colors, start the change at the end of the previous stitch.
You can choose to loosely carry your yarn up the side of the work as you alternate colors, or you can cut the yarn after each color and add it back when you need it again. It is less weaving in the ends if you carry your yarn, but it makes it slightly harder to seam up the sides.

Finishing the potholder
Fold the work in half. The row of front loop single crochets should be in the middle. Seam up the sides. At the corner you end on, chain 10. sl st back into the corner to create the loop.
Weave in your ends and you’re done!
