I’m sure other crocheters are like me and never leave the house without a crochet project. I also never leave the house without a book. You never know when you’re going to have some time to work on your crochet or read a few pages of your book! I love my kindle for on the go reading, but sometimes I prefer the physical book. This crochet book sleeve is the prefect combination of two of my favorite things and helps keep my books protected on the go.

The book sleeve is crocheted in the round for the body of the sleeve and in turned rows for the flap. It uses a modified V-stitch for the body and single crochet for the flap.
The finished crochet book sleeve measures 9.5″ by 6.5″, plus the flap. It is designed to fit standard sized paperback books. There is some stretch to it and will also fit some smaller hard cover books.

Pattern Notes
Materials needed:
- US H8/5.00 mm crochet hook
- Lily Sugar’n Cream Cotton yarn (or the 4 weight yarn of your choice)
- A: Rainforest
- B: Ecru
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Techniques used:
- Chain (ch)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Modified V-Stitch (V-st)
- Half double crochet (hdc)
- treble crochet (tr)
- Double treble crochet (dtr)
- Decrease (dec)
Modified V-Stitch:
I use a modified version of the traditional V-Stitch for this book sleeve. This modified version creates a tighter stitch than the traditional v-stitch. To crochet the modified v-stitch:.
- Double crochet into the indicated stitch
- Chain 1
- Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, pull up a loop (three loops on your hook)
- Yarn over, pull through two loops (partially completing a double crochet)
- Repeat from step 1
How to decrease:
To decrease the number of stitches, you crochet two stitches together. To do this in single crochet:
- Insert hook into the front loop of the first stitch
- Insert hook into the front loop of the second stitch (three loops on your hook)
- Yarn over, pull through the first two loops
- Yarn over and pull through
