The magic circle, also called magic ring or adjustable ring, is a great way to begin crocheting in the round. I love this method because its more flexible and its easier to make sure you don’t have the gap in the middle of your work that you get when you work into a ring of chains.
There are multiple methods to create the magic circle. I’ve tried a bunch of them and this way works best for me.
To begin, you’ll need whatever yarn and hook that you are using for your project.
1. Hold the yarn between your thumb and you index/middle fingers and wrap it around your fingers so you have an X.

2. Insert your hook under the first loop and grab the working yarn from the top loop. Pull up a loop.

3. Yarn over with your working yarn and pull through.

4. Now you have you magic circle! You can adjust the circle by pulling on the tail.

5. Work your stitches into the circle.

6. Pull the tail to close the circle.

7. Slip stitch into the first stitch to join.
