Post stiches are stitches that are worked into the post of the row below, rather than the top of the row below. These stiches are a great way to add texture to your work. Post stitches are frequently used to create a ribbing effect in your work. While double crochet post stitches are more common, you can work any basic stitch as a post stitch.
There are two kinds of post stitches: front post stitches and back post stitches. Front post stitches are worked from front to back of the stitch while back post stitches are worked from back to front of the stitch.
To form a front post stitch:
Insert your hook from the front of the stitch around the post of the stitch in the row below.
Grab the working yarn and pull through. Complete the stitch as usual.
To from a back post stitch:
Insert your hook from the back of the stitch around the post of the stitch in the row below.
Grab the working yarn and pull through. Complete the stitch as usual.
